WordPress 2.0 Kubrick Theme Problems -Solved !

If any of you are using the default Kubrik theme in WordPress 2.0, you may have noted a problem. The Footer seems to be shifted – ever so slightly – to the right! It doesn’t happen in IE 6 though. I have several (test) sites all using that theme at the moment, and they all have the fault. (Not planning on sticking with it long term I might add ๐Ÿ˜€ )

Naturally, I went looking for a solution, and that Included posting on the forums at WordPress.org.

I quickly found one other person with the same issue (so I was relieved to see it wasn’t just me!) and then a solution appeared.

Hats off to Spencerp for providing the solution.

As usual, the difference in interpretation of CSS by different browsers is a pain. Hopefully IE 7 will be more compliant.

I must admit – an advantage of open-source software is that there is usually someone who has the solution for you ๐Ÿ™‚

A strange thing happened on the way to the upgrade.

Well, as I said, I’ve upgraded to wordpress 2.0 . One of the first things I wanted to trial was the WYSIWYG editor with uploaded images.

I uploaded an image file (easy) and tried to insert it into a post – it failed! I was left with no image tag at all as soon as I pressed ‘save‘ or ‘save and continue editing‘. (I looked at the html generated). I was UNHAPPY!

I immediately blamed 2.0 of course! I also blamed the upgrade process just in case ๐Ÿ™‚ . I resigned myself to NOT using the wysiwyg editor ๐Ÿ™ . Later, I tried Podz trial site and confirmed that the editor didn’t work there either. So it must have been 2.0 at fault! Right? WRONG!

Akismet – it’s kismet!

Fate indeed! There I was noting my intention to add a SPAM catcher, and there I see on Matt’s site the notification that AKISMET was available!
Well I’m gonna give it a go ๐Ÿ™‚
IF it fails there are gonna be a few red faces I guess, but seems such a good idea.
Only concern is privacy, and I hope Matt has figured out the secure aspect of all this?
GO for it!

NoFollow – DoFollow

Just a quick note to my commenters. (umm both of you ๐Ÿ™‚ )
I have installed the DoFollow plug-in so you get appropriate google search engine credit for posts here.
As you MAY know, WordPress 1.5.2 automatically inserts a NoFollow tag to all comment links in an effort to reduce comment spam. Not necessarily gonna work though.
Philosophically – you comment you should get the page rank IMHO.
Not alone in this I know, so – DoFollow is here.
Will also institute some decent anti-spam measures soon too.
